How to enable white lists in web proxy.

Mar 12 04 6:00 am

I am using a trial version of WinGate to see if it will be the right product for our business. I tried WinProxy but only to find that it did not offer user authentication from inside the network. I am now trying your software and I plan to use java authentication configuring the browser to use the WinGate server as a proxy. One thing I need the software to do is that only allow users certain websites and ignore the rest of the web. Administrators need to be able to view all of the web. I read in some articles that WinGate allows this to be done. If so, how would I go about getting that to work. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Oscar,

You would do this with policies. If you are using a NAT connection with TR(transparent redirection) turned on, or using a proxy connection, then you can go to the www proxy service and set access restrictions for users or groups. I have included a link to one of our knowledge base articles for your assistance:

Matt, this only helps me find out how to restrict users from sites. I don't want to have to write a whole list of policies for web sites to restrict. Does wingate have an option for users to view only a list of ALLOWED websites and restrict the rest of the web? Or is restricting url's by name the only option?

All you need to do is put the sites that you want to grant access to in the policy as, this criterion is MET if, and all other sites that you haven't specifically allowed should be banned.
