1- why i cant open any hotmail or yahoo e-mail pages using the wingate 5.2.3

2- why i cant use my outlook experss or Microsoft Outlook using wingate 5.2 - 5.2.3 .. i can use it if i disable the pop3 & stmp

3- some times the wingate "gatekeeper " go offline alone ,, and whenever i run it on .. it goes again off ...what should i do ?

4- i face a problem to stop clients from working when i stop them ~~

i have a user with this # 10.0.10.6 ..
i want to pervent him using the net .. depending on the MAC address 4 that user ..
at the same time i dont want him to change his IP and work again

We're going to need some more information here.

1) How are your clients connecting through WinGate to yahoo and hotmail? NAT, WGIC, direct proxy? Do you have TR's turned on? What happens when you do try to open these pages? What errors are returned? Do you have caching enabled? Have you tried to purge the cache?

2) How do you have OE and Outlook set up?! Are they point directly at your ISP's mail server, or WinGate's? Are you using WinGate Mail?

3) It shouldn't do this, do you have a timeout set in the RCP service? It is also not recommended to leave GateKeeper running unnecessarily.

4) You need to make sure that your clients are being assigned IP's by WinGates DHCP server. To enforce which MAC address gets which IP can be done by creating the necessary policies under the DHCP service. You can then create policies in other services to limit access to the internet.

HI Again

1) How are your clients connecting through WinGate to yahoo and hotmail? NAT, WGIC, direct proxy? Do you have TR's turned on? What happens when you do try to open these pages? What errors are returned? Do you have caching enabled? Have you tried to purge the cache?

1- Am not sure how ,, but I will tell u how I do it ,, I just put for the clients computer the IP and gateway “which is the server IP” ..subnet mask …. etc
I didn’t try to purge the cache , coz the problem is that I cant login in my hotmail or yahoo mails .. I can open the page then I managed to put the username and password ,, after that nothing opened … the MSN messenger open … but just the e-mail don’t open.
Whats the TR's?
At the same time .. the MSN messenger if I use it inside the network the clients cant see, talk to each others or even most of the time the text is too late to go to the other user !! or some times don’t go ,also I thing if am using it for out side the network it would be the same .. no sound no cam !!

2) How do you have OE and Outlook set up?! Are they point directly at your ISP's mail server, or WinGate's? Are you using WinGate Mail?

2- The Setup is the default settings .. and I use the mail server comes with WG as an internal mail server between the clients
lets say I have this account !!! Hourani@123.com I use for the pop3 mail.123.com.. and for the stmp mail.123.com .. so I guess its direct to the ISP mail server
I just added mails to the wingate mail . and didn’t start to use them yet !!

3) It shouldn't do this, do you have a timeout set in the RCP service? It is also not recommended to leave GateKeeper running unnecessarily.

3- Am not sure about the RCP if its timeout set or not .. am gonna check .. but if the gatekeeper is not open .. it keeps recording in the history ?

4) You need to make sure that your clients are being assigned IP's by WinGates DHCP server. To enforce which MAC address gets which IP can be done by creating the necessary policies under the DHCP service. You can then create policies in other services to limit access to the internet.

Maybe this is the most important part to me !!

I will tell you what I do .. and I hope u will advice me which steps are OK or not
1- I go to the users section and add all the clients I have
2- I go to the assume users and I put there IP numbers and there names
3- I go to the system policy and add for every user a filter and is this filter I make an new criteria which is Met if Mac Address equals to the MAC address of the specified clients
4- In the DHCP , I go to DHCP setting and I add a scope every clients scope is the range for his number . like this
10.0.10.6 to 10.0.10.6 and exclude 10.0.10.1 – 10.0.10.5 & 10.0.10.7 – 10.0.10.255

then a make a reservation .. which is the IP number with the Mac address

this is for every client ..

So maybe am doing many things un necessary or I don’t know what ..
So plz the only thing I want to stop any client from access the net using his IP & Mac address

And as u c its too much work to do if am gonna to format the server and make all these settings it will take time .. I know there is a way to copy all these settings and then restore it for the new copy.. So I hope u will advice me how to do it

The last thing that I would like to ask !!
How to use the Netmeeting over the Wingate .. is it supported or needs configuration ?
