Problems with AOL

Postby mxh » Mar 27 04 3:45 am

I have installed Wingate VPN on a laptop, and it connects fine over a basic dial-up connection and allows us to browse the network. However, connecting via broadband through AOL, Wingate makes the VPN connection but does not allow us to browse the network (message saying that the drive mapping is already in use and cannot be reconnected)

Any ideas why the AOL connection should prevent us doing this?

Thanks

Mike

Found this which may be of help

"Seems that if you use their version
of Internet Explorer that is "built-in" to AOL, their proxy servers don't know
what to do with the VPN traffic because the internal addresses being requested
by the applications are not valid on the Internet. To get around the problem
we run IE (and other apps) from outside AOL (start AOL, minimize, then start
IE) and it seems to work fine for browser-based VPN functions."
