Postby SniperDan » Apr 17 04 11:30 pm

Helpppp!!!!
I would like to know if it is possible to connect two ADSL connections on to a single server running Wingate and then set up the clients to use the first ADSL connection for Websurfing and the second ADSL connection for heavy downloads like for Kazaa simultaneously...At present I am using Wingate ver 5.2.3 with a single ADSL connction

Sorry..I wrote the second post after a day after coming back from Disco..so I thought it was a long time after my first post.Actually the ADSL connection is cheap here and that was when I thought whether it would be possible to hook up a second one and give my clients a 24hrs download on that one..that woud be really cool for everybody on the LAN as they can Surf fast and also download 24hrs....dream stuff till now

But the question is.....
R u able to Connect the Two ADSL connections... at the same time..?
cuz i think if the ADSL AHR-U mean Modem is USB interface then this might not work..
i am not sure about ADSL
but At my scean ... I tried to install 2 ISDN USB interface but i did't worked for me...
U may Get ur windows Crached ... while Doing this....So beWare...

Well try doing this..
and then come back again... i will tell u how to do it...
i am running 4 dial up connections...
1 for web (exe, mpeg, mp3, avi, zip etc.. r not allowed)
1 for downloading www server 2 ( jpg, gif r not allowed)

Hi Max...
Well thanks for that positive reply of urs...Here we get the ADSL modems from the company itseld which are USB type. I aint know whether the two ADSL lines will get connected at the same time on a single computer or not as u said. Well here is what I plan to do
A) With only one server
I connect the second adsl thru USB and hope the Wingate recognises it..and they get connected and aint crash. So I will have 3 nics..(.2 ADSL and one LAN). I create a new Socks server in wingate in aother port and there in its properties I will choose it to use only the second ADSL interface as the outgoing interface....and let users use it for ascessing Kazaa. But the problem here is that I aint know whether the second ADSL will be just used as an upload conection and the real download happens thru the First one...that will be a disaster

B)With Two server( One ADSL on each servers)
I connect the second ADSL in the second server computer and have an another LAN nic in it and then connect it to the same switch which is used by the first LAN server with the first ADSL...(Since I am a new guy in to networkin..i am studyin its possiblities as still I aint know whether a LAN will run with 2 servers and two gateways in it...and also hwt to configure it)

C)One ADSL and One Dial up on a single server
Well this is the first I am planning to do then A followed by B. I want to do it to test the problem which I stated at last in A
Wish me best of luck......got fired up and bcoz of it have been reading my medical books less these days. Hope I find an answer soon....as it will be really helpful for our LAN,s upcoming doctor whizzies to have a 24hrs Download...DREAM STUFF AAARGH!!!!!!!!!!
LAst thought
...........me thought humans were more complicated ...:-)

SniperDan,

connecting 2 adsl looks possible as mentioned by max3do.

it has happened to me by an incident... here's d story.

b4 using wingate, our old network is using analogx proxy. while in the process of switching analogx w/ wingate and our adsl to another adsl provider, i intended not to cut the subscription of our existing adsl right away, so i cud compare w/c adsl is more stable. i let analogx running for few weeks since many are still connecting to it, and install wingate for the new upcoming network. analogx uses port 6588 for http on isp-old & wingate uses port 80 on isp-new. so this shows that two adsl is possible on a single server w/ 3 nics (2 for adsl's, 1 for our lan) with two proxies.

so this is more of a trial network since both of my isp's provide static ip's (203.xxx.xxx.xxx) & (202.xxx.xxx.xxx) and applying the same manner to ur network may be possible for u to provide separate access for browsing and p2p connections. this is not a really a lean & possible solution but it cud serve as ur guide. goodluck :)

Hello;
B4 the experiments I heard about a product called Dual WAN Router or a Quad WAN router like Edimax BR-6541 where up to 4 ADSL connections can be plugged up and Load balancing can be carried out....but have to find whether Wingate can be used as a server in such a scenario
