SMTP Proxy Error - CSMTPSession::OnRead()

Postby dparry » May 19 04 12:15 am

Hi,

I have a client who uses the SMTP Proxy Server, that forwards to the mail gateway of their broadband server provider.

Recently they started using a new CRM package that can send email via a SMTP server, so this package has been configured as per the normal email configuration with the SMTP server set as the Wingate server internal IP address. However, the quite frequently they get an email saying that sending the email failed from the CRM package, but email always works fine.

I was looking through the SMTP Proxy logs and found the following error message several times and I was hoping that someone could shed some light on it...

Error: Caught socket exception in CSMTPSession::OnRead() Connection Reset by Remote Host - terminating

Thanks in advance,

David

Hi

Do you know if the CRM package is using any extended SMTP commands to send mail? This could possibly cause a mailserver to disconnect. It is difficult to tell from that log message whether the disconnection is the client disconnecting, or the SMTP server at your ISP.

In general the SMTP proxy is not particularly useful anymore compared with the full SMTP server in WinGate. Furthermore debug logging in the SMTP server in WinGate will let you know exactly what is going on. If your customer is keen to try 5.2.3 or the latest beta, you should be able to figure out what the CRM package is doing. Or does this software itself have any debug logging (or normal logging) capabilities wrt SMTP delivery? If so, if you can get hold of a log sample and post it here, I will make sure you are answered in a more timely manner!
