Another not accessible. AHHH!

Jul 06 04 10:25 am

I can connect to my Lan through an SSl through my NAT router, but the server and lan comes up not accessible.

My client IP is 192.168.1.47 and the server is 192.168.1.103, I connect through a static DSL Line IP 68.162.xxx.xxx. I tried switching the client to 192.168.2.47, but I cannot connect to the internet let alone the server. Subnet masks for both ends are 255.255.255.0. Published routes always show a conflict: 192.168.1.103/255.255.255.255 (In Conflict).

What next?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi Steve,

You're on the right track! The reason that the server is showing as not accessible is because both ends of your VPN are on the same subnet. Therefore changing the client's IP address to the different subnet will fix the VPN problem. However it looks like perhaps something is not quite set up correctly if you killed your internet access.

How is your client connecting to the internet? If you're behind a DSL router that has a firewall then you'll also have to change the internal IP address of the router.

Thanks for the reply Matt,
The client is only behind a DSL modem. When I switch subnets (I don't change the mask), It seems the modem is not recognized. I would rather change the client subnet and not the LAN for obvious reasons ( The server IP is static, but the rest is DHCP. Any thoughts?

Steve,

Could you please be a little more specific about how you have things connected? I would like to get a grip on the problem you are having as it sounds like I might encounter it with employees.

Thanks

Hi there, if you switch subnets then you will need to change the DSL 'modem' subnet to the same subnet as well or the modem will not be recognised.

For instance let's say the original sub is 192.168.22.x and you change the sub to 192.168.55.x then the router will need to be changed to 192.168.55.1. Also remember to change the remote gateway for all machines to the new router address.
