Connection crashes computer

Jul 24 04 2:50 am

I set up trial connection from my client computer, connected properly to server. Set up VPN on permanent client computer and I could see the connection being established. As soon as connection complete (1 second later), the computer instantly crashes (blue screen for a second) and reboots. I turned off all services and startup via msconfig and connection worked. Turned on all services and startups and rebooted several times and connection worked. Only problem was server unavailable.

The computer has Win XP Home. I come back to my trial machine and connection times out without connecting. I try to connect on the permanent machine and again it crashes.

Lots of issues here, any ideas?

Thanks, Eric

Hi Eric,

This sounds like a driver conflict, what network adapters are you using?

Which machine is hosting the VPN? Can you try and connect to our trial VPN that we have set up? I will email you the config file.

Regards,

Matt

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your attention. Your question about the adapter prompted me to check. The problem computer is connected via a cable modem using a USB adapter (it is not connecting via a network card). I am connected to that computer remotely, so not an easy task to change this. I resolved all other issues, so the crashing is the only open issue. I could not connect to your vpn, however I had the problem computer attempt to connect to my machine with the same result, it crashes and the last thing I see is "Connected: SSL control channel negotiated." I would never use the USB port, do you think this is the problem?

What is the make and model of the USB adapter?

Do you have any other software on the problem machine that could be conflicting with us? We don't like play well with other firewall software, things like ZoneAlarm or Norton firewall, we tend to have conflicts.

Can you post the whole dump file message?

Thanks,

Matt

The USB adapter is Motorola SURFboard 4100 USB Cable Modem.

There was zone alarm but I uninstalled it early on. Another potential conflict: there is a Cisco VPN installed (I had disabled it in Services and in Startup). The OS is Win XP Home.

The dump message is:
C:\windows\minidump\mini072604-01.dmp
c:\docume~1\Mike&J~1\locals~\temp\WER2.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

The sysdata.xml file is rather long, so I emailed it to you.

Thanks.

Now, when you uninstalled ZoneAlarm, did you also remove its drivers? We saw the case when ZoneAlarm was removed but the uninstaller left the drivers intact and this upset Wingate big time.

I just uninstalled zone alarm via Add/Remove Programs, where do I find out how to remove the drivers as well?
