Hi Experts,
I am very new to Wingate Server and i Had meeting with manager who had raised the below query. I had no clue about the answer to the question.
Scenario:
If i purchase Wingate Proxy Server and install it on my server box, Does it block the website Related porn, Gambling etc.. by Default, Or do i need to get Puresight to block this category.
Is there a way to block this category with Puresight Plugin..
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Hi
WinGate doesn't come with a website categorisation system built-in, that's what PureSight for WinGate is for.
You can manually block sites with WinGate, but can't categorise them, so can't enable / disable sites by category without PureSight for WinGate.
The information on our website is a bit out of date relating to categories PureSight for WinGate recognises and blocks. There are about 11 more categories than that.
the best source of information about PureSight 3.x for WinGate is the help file that comes with it. I'd suggest downloading PureSight for WinGate, installing it (free 30 day trial), and review the help documentation.

Hi Adrien,
Thanks for your quick reply..
Just wanted a bit more clarification on the below statement
[You can manually block sites with WinGate, but can't categorise them, so can't enable / disable sites by category without PureSight for WinGate.]
So does this means that i need to manually add each and every site realted to porn in BAN List of Wingate..

Hi
Yes, if you wanted to block porn sites without using something like PureSight, then you'd need to tell WinGate which sites to block.
Certain types of rules can block multiple sites (e.g. URL contains some key word), but you need to be careful.

Yes and no.
You can use restrictions like: HTTP URL or server name contains "porn", etc. But of course special software filter is more convenient and it is "sharpened" to search forbidden objects in urls and even in content.
P.S. I use PureSight.
PS 2 at first, now upgraded to PS 3. Can't say I am happy, but it is working (I never try any other soft for this, so can't say how good or bad PS is compared to others).
But one thing I will never forget: after PS v2 installation and setting up
with default settings it allowed me to visit porno.com web site! Later I tuned (made PS more "sensitive" to sex content), but that was a funny fact.
May be PS v3 is more thought-out...
BTW, Adrien, can Wingate search in sites content the forbidden words and phrases? (I don't remember)

You might want to try OpenDNS. It's a very good and free way to manage access to sites. It's also easy to implement and manage.

Hello Larry,
So to use even the business subscription with six users' via Wingate, opendns will 'see' only the single user, am I right or am I right?
Yeah, I'm too lazy to read the ods FAQ's because you'll probably know. ;))

Hi Nev!
Yes. Since the DNS request is being made by WinGate that's the IP OpenDNS sees.
Honest, OpenDNS is a great way to block a lot of the bad stuff out there. I use it at home and at two large churches I support and am quite happy with it. No solution is perfect but OpenDNS is the best I've found.
