Using Windows VPN behind Wingate

Oct 06 05 6:34 am

I am trying to set up VPN on Windows 2000 server. However, it appears that Wingate is obstructing it!

The W2k server is sitting inside a network that has Wingate (on another W2k server) as the gateway.

I found a document that states that the following must be enabled:
- TCP Port 1723; and
- IP Protocol ID 47 [GRE - Generic Routing Encapsulation]

Well, setting up the TCP port in the firewall was not a problem (redirect to IP of RRAS / VPN server etc), but after spending a day searching for information on IP Protocol ID 47 I have no idea how to set this up within Wingate.

Can anyone direct me as to where I should look?!

Many Thanks in anticipation.

Here is an example of port mapping TCP 1723 to a computer hosting a MS VPN behind WinGate. Please do not forget to check the "Dont translate Source IP"; that is the only extra option you should require. This has been configured before.

If you still need assistance:

1. What version of WinGate do you have?

Hi James,

Thanks for your reply. It was the 'Don't translate source IP' tick that was the problem. Now ticked and now working!!!

Thanks.
