How to use the NTLM Authentication in WinGate User Database?

Feb 21 12 3:44 pm

Hi, I am trying WinGate 7 and chose to use WinGate User Database.
I still don't understand how the "Enable NTLM Authentication" works after reading the help.

What should I put in "Emulate" (default is Domain) ?
What should I put in "Name" (default is WINGATE) ?

Does it work like this?
1. I create a WinGate user named "apple". My domain also has a user named "apple".
2. When "apple" logs in the domain and access internet, WinGate will automatically authenticate her as "apple" in WinGate.
I tried that but I still the user is still shown as "192.168.0.10 (Unknown)" in Activity.

Thanks.

Hi

that's how it is supposed to work, however your policies also need to require authentication or the client won't auth at all. We need to do it this way so you can choose which requests require authentication (since some software can't auth).

Thanks, is there a way to import Windows domain users and convert them to WinGate users? I can't find this in help.

WinGate 7.1 has text file import for users in the WinGate Users and Groups provider. I can give you a link if you like.

Then you would need to export your users from AD.

Any reason why not just use the AD connector?

Ok, I changed the database to Active Directory Connector. Previously I thought "Windows Users and Groups Connector" is the domain and I could not login at all :).
