Guys can you please clarify sessions vs users.
I havea 6 user license and use assumed users. I use the DHCP server but every address is reserved by MAC so essenitally its a static map. I did this because as I understand it from a previous release the way assummed users works requires DHCP to allocat IP.
Now, I have 4 devices and I have set the assummes user rules to always say that for these IP adresses they are one the same user i.e. me. So 4 sessions but one user.
I recently got a license violation which said to many users and yet there were only two users active with about 7 sessions between them so my question is, is the 6 user count per user or per session?
Many thanks in advance

HI Neil
in WinGate, a "session" refers to a connection made to or through the proxy - basically a line item in the activity screen.
A user on the other hand may refer to an account, but in terms of licensing, it refers to a device / distinct IP (and/or user if you're using multi-IP machines).
Basically, any IP connecting to WinGate consumes a license count unless it is accessing a service that doesn't consume licenses:
* DNS service
* DHCP service
* Remote control service
* Winsock Redirector Service control connections (But not connections made by applications using the WinGate client - these are still counted)
This is because many companies just run everyone as Guest or unknown - they don't care. But they may still have a bunch of computers. We couldn't treat it as just one user for licensing.

Hi Adrien,
Damn, sounds like I misunderstood. I assummed that since I have 4 devices if I set the credential rules to all assumme my account it counted as one user.
I guess that means I need to upgrade. Do the 3 free licenses you now offer get added to those that are paid for. i.e. since I have a 6 user license do I effectivly have 9?

Hi Neil
the 3 user free license only has 1 restriction compared to the 3 user standard, and that is that the user count doesn't add to any other license.
But a 3 user standard license can still be purchased, and it will combine to give you 9.
Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Hi Adrien,
Sorry to resurrect this but I still have a little confusion.
I upgraded to a 12 user license but under the license window I have two none expiring pro licenses one which is 12 user and one which is 6. I did think that had upgraded to a total of 12 users but do I in fact now have 18?
As a further complication Kaspersky is due to expire and I have just renewed it but I note this says its a 6 user. What impact will the disparity between the wingate users and Kaspersky users have?
