Basic Autentication Problem

Nov 08 05 9:24 pm

Hello,

I have recently updated from 6.0.4 to 6.1. In 6.0.4 I had the WWW proxy server with Java autentication, but sometimes I changed it for basic autentication and worked because the Everyone policy only needed assumed users.

However in 6.1 when I change to Basic autentication (the Java popup window is changed to an IE autentication windows as with 6.0.4) IE shows its autentication window and the user sets its username and password, but 403 page forbidden access is displayed. However the GateKeeper activity panel shows that the user is well logged and assumed, but cannot navigate. Can you help me with this issue?

I'm not using NTLM autentication.

By other side, when using in clients IE autentication, how do you call this kind of autentication, maybe NAT, maybe Basic, maybe Both? Can you explain what is NAT (Network address translation, perhaps?)

Thanks for all.

Hi

If you look into the WWW proxy log files, what does it say when the user is denied, even though authenticated?

Sounds like there is still some policy blocking access.

note that HTTP Basic auth only raises the security level to "assumed", so if your policies require that "user must be authenticated", then Basic Auth is not strong enough to do that.
