I just upgraded from 6 to 7.
I just want a socks proxy so that I can keep a log of all of my users surfing habbits.
Unfortunately my browsers all come up with connection reset errors now and the Wingate log shows:
New connection:
unhandled command buffer type [71] - terminating
Traffic: 0 317 0 0s
Session terminated invalid command
I have no enabled policies.
I only have the default everyone/everyone/all/always/allow access rule enabled.
It's a single NIC server.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
is your client configured to authenticate to the SOCKS server? Is this browsers using SOCKS, or some other client software?
If possible, could you do a wireshark packet capture of this traffic (set filter to tcp port 1080) and send it in to our support desk and we can figure out what's going on.

standard IE/firefox/chrome socks settings.
I gave up and went back to 6. 7 was just not intuitive enough to figure out.

Hi
I did a bit of testing with WinGate 7 and a variety of SOCKS clients and couldn't reproduce your problem.
Is it possible
a) the client was quite distant from the proxy (e.g. another network, connecting over the internet)
b) there was maybe some auto socks client software (e.g. proxifier) running?
Which user database were you using? I tried with WinGate and the Active Directory one.
Sorry you decided you couldn't figure out WinGate 7. As far as SOCKS goes, except for policy it's basically the same as WinGate 6, except has a few more controls and support for 4a.
Regards
Adrien
