Error: Caught socket exception in CWWWSession::HTTPProcessRe

Postby balcarras » Dec 08 05 5:34 am

Full error is :

Error: Caught socket exception in CWWWSession::HTTPProcessRequest() Connection refused by Remote Host - terminating

Can I have a complete and concise reason for this error please and how to fix it.

We are getting this more and more.

Running Wingate in a school of 440 computers.

v 5.2.3

Thanks.

It effectively means that when a connection was attempted to the remote site the remote site actively refused the connection.

that is - destination port was closed and the destination OS replied with ICMP error "port unreachable".

Hmmmmm.....

Why is it then that computers connecting through Wingate seem to fail getting websites....

BUT, the computer running wingate which is directly connected always seems to have full connectivity...

To me this suggests an error being generated from within Wingate.

Would you care to comment?
How else can I prove that the product is at fault? or disprove?

Can you send me the particular URL that generated this? How often do you see this message? There might be multiple reasons for the connection to fail - starting from the web site being down all the way down to your router, which refused to pass SYN packet for some reason.

maybe I'm not making myself clear here....

It was nt a particular website...it was intermittent on ALL sites....some details from my log follow...

These are just 3 different sites I've picked at random from yesterdays log.
Today everything is working fine.

The above situation was occurred 3 times now in the past month. Sometimes a reboot of the Wingate server solves it, sometimes it does nt.

I do have one question.
I noticed there was no DNS server entry in the DNS/WINS Resolver Configuration Section - so I added last night our ISP's DNS primary - is this correct? When should you use or not use entries here?

Many thanks.

Normally Wingate uses DNS and WINS servers from system configuration properties - these additional entries are required if you want to use servers which the system is not aware of.

As of this WWW problem - have you tried later versions of Wingate? There have been numerous bugs fixed from v5.

as a follow up - these crashes are now occurring around once per day....
stopping and starting the engine does NOT cure the fault.

However, if I stop the endine then delete all the WWW logs then restart the server all is fine again for a while....

What does this suggest?

I am in the process of purchasing the latest version.....will this solve this issue?
