Nortel Contivity VPN CLient through WinGate connection probl

Postby kl99 » Aug 31 06 9:48 am

I have one problem with WinGate - it is installed on my home PC - Windows2000, admin rights, connected to Internet through LAN and to my laptop. I have ho rights on laptop, and I cant change any settings manually (but DHCP is enabled). I setup WinGate so I can enter Internet sites from laptop.

Unfortunately, when I start Nortel Contivity VPN CLient in laptop, it can not reach VPN server (which is lokated somewhere in Internet). Pings from laptop to external addresses (cnn.com and others) are unsuccessful also.

How can I resolve this problem? COuld you please help me...

Hi

From Nortel's site, they say their VPN client uses IPSEC, and ESP. These protocols can't normally be address translated (it breaks the encryption), and therefore can't traverse firewalls. Unless they have an update for IPSEC NAT-T (which uses UDP packets for the tunnel), then you will have to get a direct connection to the Internet for your laptop to access your company VPN server.
