Wingate only working on 32-bit applications on XP x64

Postby seba » Apr 29 10 3:51 am

Hello, I have just installed Wingate latest version on my new computer w/ Windows XP 64-bit version.
However, I noticed that only 32-bit apps are able to access the Internet through the Winsock Redirection Service.
ie. I run Explorer 32-bit and works perfectly. I run Explorer 64-bit and it does not... keeps looking for the host and does nothing. I then installed XP SP2 and Explorer 64-bit started working fine.

However, all other 64-bit apps do not.

I am a coder and I use .Net. I did a simple test application that tries to connect to an external DB. The same application, compiled for x64 does not work and hangs while trying to connect to an external Internet-hosted database. If I compile it for x86, it works perfectly.

Any clues?

Regards,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian

You're correct, the LSP DLL which is the core of the WinGate Internet Client, is only a 32 bit DLL, so won't be loaded by winsock in the 64 bit system.

We have a 64 bit port on our roadmap (mainly for Vista, Windows 7 and 2008 x64).

All other connection mechanisms should still work fine. We hadn't really anticipated there was still this much demand for the client software (which predates our NAT implementation). Most people seem to use NAT or proxy.
