Only HTTPS sites work.

Postby Harp » Jul 08 10 2:07 pm

I have Wingate 6.?? (Latest Version)
The clients can only display HTTPS sites. HTTP sites just say connecting and time out.

My setup is:
USB NIC card connected to local Wireless internet. IP and gateway is assigned by ISP.
A internal NIC card with assiged ip of 192.168.0.3 connected by cat 5 to a Belkin wireless router configured as a access point with the assigned IP of 192.168.0.7 and the gate way of 192.168.0.3 and a ISP1 DNS and a ISP2 DNS.
The internal NIC card is setup for internal and the USB card for external.

Clinent setup is:
IP 192.168.0.71
255.255.255.0
Gateway is 192.168.0.3
DNS is ISP1 and ISP2

Useing the client machine I can ping the world and get results but it will only display HTTPS sites useing IE.
The machine that Wingate is installed on has no problems with HTTP or HTTPS sites.
Its almost like it is not finding or getting info from a DNS server.
Any ideas on this one.
No AV is installed on the Wingate machine. (yet)
Thanks

Hello and welcome!

What happens if you change the DNS to Wingate // 192.168.0.3, anyway as you can ping hosts on the Internet DNS is probably ok I'd say.

What is the proxy setting for IE? Perhaps none for HTTPS so it works via NAT.

Does it work if you select a direct connection, ie; no proxy?

If you use the WWW Proxy, is the port correct for service eg; 80.

When TCPIP is not set up correctly, strange things like this can happen.

Be sure that the internal NIC is set to not have a default gateway, and no DNS entries (blank). See what that does for you.

After a reinstall it is working in NAT mode.
It first fired up getting a IP (192.168.0.1) from a DHCP server (Wingate???) then it changed to Nat mode with assigned IP #'s.
Still working on other issues...Full buffers and the BSOD with ipnat.sys. If I can't figure it it out soon I will open a ticket on it.

Out of interest, what O/s is Wingate running on?

Op system is Windows XP PRO SP3.
After a removal and reinstall program runs for about 20 to 24 hours and locks up with a "out of buffers" error. I expanded the number of buffers to 2057.
There was no other programs running on the computer. No AV at this time.
No help, when I get up in the morning same error so I have to reboot the computer.
Going to try to collect more data on this and forward.
Anyways when it works it works.

Upgraded to Wingate 5.0.10. Win 2k Pro SP4 all latest updates, directway satellite connection. Seems to work fine during the day but every morning machine is locked up saying out of buffers. After reboot all works fine till the next morning. Single NIC was working fine. Also, I now get a popup from the satellite connection that proxy server is not configured correctly for IE. It lets me fix it then after awhile it will pop up again. Any ideas?GRVF

The only time I've seen the out-of-buffers error being caused so regularly and predictably, it was caused by a rootkit in windows that was hosing the machine. Removing the rootkit was sufficient to resolve the problem.
