Hello,
I'm using Wingate 7 and was happy that everything is running fine.
Then I noticed that there is an update that fixed things to version 7.0.8, so I decided to do so.
After installation Wingate asked that the computer need to be rebooted. Ok, reboot.
Windows 7 Prof 64 comes up fine and WinGate is running.
However, now when I tried to login into WinGate Management it wont displayed the main screen. WinGate Management just keep processing after entering my password. I have tried Stopping completely WinGate and rebooted the computer again with no luck.
At the moment every computer can pass data fine.
Help ?
Thanks.

Hi
which user database are you using? AD Connector?
which version were you using prior to the update to 7.0.8? We didn't change anything that should affect that.
You didn't change anything else, just ran the update?

from your other topic post, did you mean this problem is now gone after another reboot?

This problem is RESOLVED.
Solution: Just assign "Run as Administrator" and problem went away.

Adrien,
Here is some more info. Version 7.0.1 installed and the management worked just fine, both local and remote. When I tried to update to 7.0.6, I had this same problem, just sitting there with the little circle in the upper left rotating, but nothing else. I didn't have time to troubleshoot, so I uninstalled and went back to 7.0.1. When I tied to install 7.0.8 tonight, the same problem occured locally, but remote management works just fine. Tried Carves fix and sure enough, it fixes it. What's really strange is that once I ran it as Administrator, the problem is permanently fixed. That is, it works fine just running it normally, you don't need to run as Administrator anymore.
Hope that helps track it down.

Hi
OK, You must be logged into Windows in an account that doesn't have rights to write files into the program files folder.
When WinGate is updated, you get a new set of packages with DLLs etc. When GateKeeper connects, it resynchs these and copies them into WinGate\remote\servername\{module uuid] etc
if GateKeeper doesn't have rights to do this, then it won't be able to load anything (including its UI), so will be blank. Running it as admin will let it do this, and after that it doesn't need to.
So until the next upgrade you should be ok.
our installer actually grants rights to that folder, so something must have revoked or reset the rights. Did you modify rights on your disk? Possibly some windows update reset them as well.
We grant rights to "authenticated users"

I will check that out. I am running Vista with the latest service pack. Nothing was changed by me, but the latest microsoft updates were applied just before and the system was reboot. The account used is an administrator account.
However, when I had tried the 7.0.6 update, no system updates were done. Why would everything work (with no permission changes) when I went back to 7.0.1????? You said the setup program grants permission, could it possibly not be doing that correctly when you update??
Just some thoughts.

Hi
when you went back to 7.0.1, it probably then matched the engine DLLs with the UI DLLs that were in the WinGAte\Remote folder so then it would work.
Sounds definitely like it is having trouble copying DLLs.
For a test, you could try renaming the WinGate\Remote directory to something else, then see if GateKeeper can re-connect
see if it re-creates a Remote Folder for your computername and puts DLLs etc in it.
If not, check permissions in explorer for that folder.

Adrien,
First, this was an upgrade from 6.4. Second. I really don't have time to reinstall it. And third, this is what I found. The account I'm using is an administrator and part of the administrators group. The permissions on the program files/wingate folder and all subfolders did not include the account (or authenticated users) but did include the administrators group with full control. The owner was the administrators group. I added this account (and also authenticated users) to the permissions with full control. I also made this account the actual owner. I will see how it goes after the next update and will post to this thread if I have any further problems.
I did notice that the group TrustedInstallers only has list access. Does this need to be any different???
Thanks,
Wes

HI
I didn't say to reinstall. Just rename that folder. WinGate Management should rebuild it next time you connect to WinGate. This is to test whether it can access the folder properly.
