thanks Adrien

i already try to run Wingate Management on Windows 8 x64 PC.
Gatekeeper remote to Wingate server.
I just copy "Gatekeeper.exe + libeay32.dll + SciLexer.dll + SSLeay32.dll + ToolkitPro1521vc60U.dll + ToolkitPro1531vc60U.dll)"
result:
remote gatekeeper running fine.
but when i want to Add new member to the list (in Data list), the Wingate Management will auto close, without any error notice, just close & disappeared.
try to re-open Gatekeeper, try to re-Add new member to the list, same issue happen.

before this, I already run Gatekeeper on Windows 7 x64 without any issues.

Hi

I can confirm that happens for me too, I'll have to do some more testing.

I don't think that version of the Codejock toolkit pro dll can have been tested by Codejock on win8, since it predates it by quite a few months.

I tested our latest build of 7.5

It uses the new Codejock library, and doesn't have this problem.

Hi

we're just finalising the new cache module. It doesn't use SQL DB any more for the cache index, so it's a lot quicker. That turned out to be a bad idea using ODBC/SQL sorry everyone!

So it will probably be early next year, I can send you a build though if you are happy with an experimental version of the web cache.

I always like to try new features on whatever OS/software :-D
you can send me a link to sufawi@gmail.com

just asking :
-if I download & setup this new build (that you tell it doesn't use SQL DB any more for the cache index)
-mysql at my wingate server will useless? or I need to uninstall/disable mysql?
-need fresh installation? or just process to automatic update?
-old cache will import to this new cache module? or old cache will delete.

thanks :)

Hi

mysql on your wingate server could still be used for timeline, and in fact would be better than using MDB for that. Also there may be other uses for mySQL, e.g. for policy that uses SQL.

I would send you a link which you can install over the top. The new install would not recognise your old cache volume, but would create a new default (empty) one.

We discussed migrating the old cache, but the new cache structure has a lot of meta-data in the cache files, which we would need to extract from the old database. It would be quite a lot of work to try and retain the cache content.

At the moment, you would need to manually

a) delete the old cache folder(s)
b) drop the cache tables from the database

Hi

I sent you a link. Here are the release notes:

Version 7.5.0 (Build 3472)

1. New: HTTPS inspection support added (Enterprise licenses only)

2. New: HTTP proxy, can now intercept port 443. If SSL inspection is enabled, it can be inspected, else it is tunneled.

3. New: HTTP cache: now uses in-memory / file-backed indexes - no more SQL. Result is much faster cache.

4. New: Web Access Control: added rule result of "re-authenticate". This can be used to force change of user.

5. New: Certificates: can now import certificates from pfx file.

6. New: Certificates: WinGate-generate self-signed certs now add Basic constraints and subject Key ID, necessary for signing other certs.

7. New: HTTP proxy, now reads mime types for file extensions from OS.

8. New: Credential rules, now UI validates entering IP or MAC address - makes entering MAC addresses more lenient.

9. New: Web Access control: added option to track different categories for same site separately or not

10. New: Activity: added expand / collapse all

11. Change: changed development environment to MS Visual Studio 2010

12. Change: HTTP Proxy, now maintains connection to upstream proxy for SOCKS as well as Tunneled upstream connections.

13. Change: Mail: Now Checks volume access, writability etc etc. Useful for network shared volumes

14. Change: Mail: can now create volumes regardless of license. Whether you can use anything other than default volume is a matter of license. This allows you to create a new volume to migrate to without having an enterprise license.

15. Change: Mail: now checks storage type of mail volumes disallowing invalid media, such as CDROM or RAMDisk

16. Change: Mail: can now create a volume in a non-empty folder (which allows attaching a volume to a previous volume)

17. Change: Credential rules: Now check for conflicts when creating a new rule.

18. Fix: Credential rules, fixed locking issue on updating credential rules.

19. Fix: Mail: resolved some issues with migration of ORDB servers from WG6

20. Fix: Timeline: now warns on MDB over size, and enforces auto-purging.

21. Fix: Timeline: now deals with temporary inaccessibility of database.

Re: Windows 8

already installed for testing...
but after reboot, i saw this thing happen :
-wingate engine monitor show wingate engine starting (yellow icon)
-wingate engine start (blue icon)
-wingate engine auto stop (red icon)
then i manually start engine = wingate running well

my simple solution :
-open services.msc, set Qbik wingate services startup to "manual"
-create basic task scheduler
-trigger wingate.exe -s to run on any user logon, with time delay 1minute = wingate service running OK
(may I know wingate.exe arguments for 1. start(is it "-s" ?), 2.stop and 3.restart)
*wingate server OS = windows 7 pro x86
---
another issues is :
-running gatekeeper, click disconnect, then when click gatekeeper window close button (x), windows will show error message -> "wingate management has stopped working..."
-BUT if running gatekeeper, then without click disconnect, just click gatekeeper window close button (x), it will ok.
*I test running gatekeeper on wingate server pc running windows7pro x86, also test running gatekeeper on remote pc at windows 8 pro x64 ; same problem

cache issues :
-many Error in log : "Failed to write index for new entry. CacheIndexError 13"
but from my view n test, cache file keep adding into disk & document load from cache also no problem.

Note: Can we continue discussion about this not released version in this thread, or start new thread?

Hi

that cache log error you can ignore, it means it didn't add an entry to cache because there was one in there already for that URL. We already fixed that (in terms of what we log and why) here.

We can continue this in this thread no problem.

Re: Windows 8

Postby sawi » Dec 14 12 7:04 pm

thanks Adrien.

reporting after using v7.5 for a while to my office network.
1) Data list issues
I still got error message on gatekeeper when want to Add new member to the data list.
-before - using gatekeeper 7.2.8 - add new member to data list - result is gatekeeper window disappeared.
-now - using gatekeeper 7.5 - add new member to data list - result is error window show message, close the error message also close gatekeeper.
sometimes it's ok can add new member to data list, sometimes it will got error.

2) Stability issues
-sometimes cpu usage will going up, 80%-100%
-can't connect to internet
-but wingate engine not stop, gatekeeper not disconnected
-restart wingate engine solve the problem, but sometimes it will happen again.

i go to event viewer n save this, i don't it's usefull or not (also dunno the correct way to get error log from windows event log), just to share if anything Wingate team can get information :)

Re: Windows 8

Postby sawi » Dec 18 12 7:26 pm

doing some more test on wingate v7.5.
i setup test machine, new windows 7x86 setup+all critical+recommended+optional windows update installed, fresh wingate 7.5 installed.

now already reach 20 hours running without any issues like I had before (cpu load 100%, turn normal after stop or restart wingate engine)
just the issues i found is : 1)crash when add member to data list ; only on remote Gatekeeper at windows8 x64 pc & 2)crash when disconnect & close gatekeeper; both on remote & localhost gatekeeper.

will monitor for this week for any crash/problem, wish Wingate Team will have nice christmas&new year holiday, and will coming back with new wingate version with faster cache management :-)
