Postby dutchmen » Apr 27 04 8:06 am

Hai.

I'have got a strange problem with dns. Sometimes I have a DNS Storm in WIngate 5.2.3. I see a lot of DNS requests and wingate stop responding with ens error. Do you know something about this?

Thanks in advance

is there a particular user who is causing this? or is it the server which is appearing in gate keeper? have you added any manual ips in dns wins resolver?

The DNS storm is started by our windows 2000 dns server. And after a period the dns server is shuting down. This is happening after I played with wingate vpn. Installing the new version did not help.

The dns is using wingate as forwarder and I put the dns ip of the adsl modem in wingate.

I hope that this answer your questions?
Thanks in advance.

i think i know what the problem is, the private ip adress on your lan card should have a blank dns( the network that clients connect to) what you did probably is put the dns of the dsl modem in there just remove it, this case happened with me once and i almost lost my mind figuring it out :)
also since you use dns in wingate disable the dns in win 2000 if there is a dns server in the services.
hope this helps.

Hai,

Thanks for your advise. But I cannot disable the dns on the server because it is a windows 2000 domain with active directory. The client are only using the dns of the server.
I will try to disable the dns entry on the networkcard.

Thanks and I will let you know of this works.

I only removed the dns entry of the NIC and this seems to work.
Thanks for the tip
