blue screen

Postby ingeltra » May 05 04 10:03 am

hello,
2 days ago i dialed in my isp with a guest username (i can only browse their website) meanwhile wingate was running and users were trying to browse several sites, suddenly i got a blue screen saying something about an error in qbik.sys and that the system will dump memory or something.
i have 5.2.3 and win200 sp4, norton 7.6. since then i restarted and everything worked fine. however today i stopped and started wingate several times when suddenly i got wrong username or password in gatekeeper, the case that requires wingate being uninstalled and then reinstalled. anyone knows about these problems? and are there any solutions?

ingeltra,

im not sure if i cud help u well. but there r temporary remedies w/c i like to share. this regards to dns problem, bsod, hung system..etc...

1) BSOD or out of memory: i switched to avg from norton bec norton is resource hog and my server is only 500mhz. or if u like to stick with norton thats ok, juz disable it when installing wingate.

also, disabling "Enable additions to cache" also prevent bsod's & memory related issues on some system

2) DNS problem: i disabled wingate's dns and use Analogx FastCache instead. i've been using wingate since version 3.x, not so happy w/ its dns performance.

lastly, always get ur driver's update directly from manufacturer's site, not from windows update :)

well, i kinda suspected that it was caused by cache so i disabled it, and about driver updates i know that already :), windows update always has some outdated last year driver.

thanks for your advice.
