6.0 beta

Postby labull » May 07 04 8:57 am

As the "Senior Member" title below my name implies I've been a WinGate fan for a long time. I do all I can to get the most out of WinGate. I'm also a critic who whines to the developers quite often about things I don't like or would like to see. I don't work for Qbik or even live in New Zealand.

I've been testing 6.0 Beta for 5 or 6 days and it's great! It has been rock solid with memory and CPU usage very well behaved.

We have web browsing for about 100 users, coroprate email for close to 400 mailboxes plus web hosting being serviced by WinGate so we work it pretty hard. 6.0 has proven up to the task.

The best part of 6.0 so far has been the "Block spoofed sender Address" of the SMTP server. We're averaging about 1000 messages blocked EVERY DAY!! That's a significant time savings for folks not having to worry all that junk SPAM. So far the "false-positive" rate has been below 2% and that will be reduced futher as we configure the service.

Bottom Line - get 6.0 now! Test it out. If there are any changes you'd like or problems found post them here so the developers will know. My configuration may not be like yours so as many folks as possible need to test to get the best possible idea of how the product behaves.

The more we test the product before the release, the better the release will be!

Hi Larry.
I have installed the 6.0b on a future wingate server, but I cant make it work, neither the server pc can browse any webpage.
I was reading that may be the network cards brands:
adsl router --> Realtek 8029 (realtek drivers)
internal network --> Realtek 8039 (realtek drivers)

I have tryed the copy/paste of the ENS driver from my 'working' wingate server.

Dont you had something like this? Or anyone there?

Do you have access to the Internet from the WinGate server itself ? Can it successfully connect, browse, etc. ?

Why did you copy the ENS driver from another machine? What version of Wingate do you run there?

At this moment finally I made it work, I have installed on my laptop (with no wingate usage before and Intel Pro 100 NIC).
Now I was wondering how to uninstall completly the wingate, that there are ZERO traces of any wingate configuration? this to acheve a new fresh intallation, thanks.

using the email collection via POP3 Proxy of wingate seems to work (problem may be related to dialup connections?).

Hi Olaf

POP3 collection logging settings use the settings specified in the SMTP server, so if you go into that, and turn on debug logging, you will see exactly what is happening.

CAPA seems to be a problem (together with POP3Proxy):
05/09/04 19:23:29 127.0.0.2 <system> 0000009350 Debug: xyz#xyz.de@proxy.research.ok-edv.de <=S: +OK WinGate Engine POP3 Gateway ready
05/09/04 19:23:29 127.0.0.2 <system> 0000009350 Debug: xyz#xyz.de@proxy.research.ok-edv.de C=>: CAPA
05/09/04 19:23:29 127.0.0.2 <system> 0000009350 Debug: xyz#xyz.de@proxy.research.ok-edv.de <=S: -ERR unrecognised command CAPA
05/09/04 19:23:29 127.0.0.2 <system> 0000009350 Debug: xyz#xyz.de@proxy.research.ok-edv.de C=>:

the same serves are working OK if I do not use the proxy. But in this case I have to establish the internetconnection first (ISDN Dialup).
