Very specific case, will it work ?

Postby WGTest » May 07 04 7:57 pm

Hello,

I am searching to understand if the following situation will work and how if it does.

- Wingate server directly connected to internet using a DSL connection (PC with only 1 network card)
- WGIC installed on a PC behind a firewall.

Is it possible to have the WGIC connecting the Wingate server through port 80 in order to allow this PC to have specific access to internet (using the Wingate server as a sort of proxy) ?

What should I do on the firewall in order to block such behavior ?

Thx

Hi

You can run the Winsock Redirector Service on port 80
You can connect the WGIC over the Internet (through a firewall) to a Winsock Redirector Service on port 80.

So, yes I think what you describe is possible.

To block such a thing with a firewall? that is more difficult. You could either block the server they are connecting to, or otherwise your firewall would need to be able to see that the traffic on port 80 was not HTTP.... don't know of any firewalls that can do this.
