Could you give us some more information about how your client computer connects through WinGate? i.e. are you using the WWW Proxy, SOCKS Proxy, NAT, WGIC or something else to connect Live Messenger to the internet. Thanks.

Hi all,

That could be the Socks timeout?

I have been using Live Messenger behind WinGate with no troubles at all for a long time now, so I do not have any instant solutions for you sorry, only suggestions.

Now that the Live Messenger is connecting with the timeouts off; What happens if you set the timeouts back to their defaults and restart the WinGate engine? Does the problem reappear? Since it took so long for Messenger to fix itself, it could be just a coincidence that Messenger started working normally a while after changing the timeouts. It would be nice to confirm that changing timeouts definitely is what solved your problem.

If this problem happens again, can you check if the problem also occurs on the WinGate Server itself? The WinGate server has a direct connection to the internet rather than a NAT connection through the WinGate engine, so if this problem happens on the server aswell as the clients, then this problem will most likely be caused by something other than WinGate. Maybe something about your internet connection or hardware between your server and your internet modem?-

I tried share internet with windows server 2003 and works perfectly live messenger and if i connect directly to modem, live messenger is ok, but obviously i don't have funcionalities from wingate, wingate is great!! has everything what i need, and works very well except messenger, I installed it with default values and nothing, uncheck timeouts, nothing, connects and disconnects frecuently when i start session, after a while messenger remains connected, I don't know what to do, i visited te forum and some users have the same problem but i don't have a real fix. Now, i'm gonna try check and increase the value of timeouts, again if somebody knows the answer, help!!!!, i like wingate very much, i wouldn't like leave it only for a messenger problem.
