We have a typical WinGate server installation and about a dozen client machines. We have Internet Explorer's proxy settings set on all client PC's so that all client browsers can access the WAN. Works very well.
Works well, until we surf to a website that launches a Java applet that needs to connect to the hosts's server (the applet is a chat window). The japa applet tries to connect to it's server, but it times out and reports that it cannot connect.
I looked at the Windows Control Panel and found the Java control panel, and it's "Network Settings" tab shows that Java is configured to use Internet Explorer's proxy settings. There is another setting that allows you to enter your proxy settings. I did, and no go.
I installed the WinGate Client on the client machine, and while I can see it working for other types of connections (Remote Desktop for example), it just doesn't seem to work with the Java applet, no matter what I have Java's proxy settings set to.
Does anybody reading this have any experience with Java applets and WinGate?
