File Downloads timeout

Postby Safari21 » Jul 02 08 6:12 pm

Hi, I am an ex Winproxy customer that is trialing Wingate. 5 PC's through a server on a fixed IP ADSL connection via telecom in NZ. Server is XP.

The basics are: I have Wingate newly installed on a server, I have pursight installed.
After reading the Forums, I have changed my IP address to the 10.0.0.* range instead of the 90.0.0.* range of winproxy. All PC's communicate and share files etc as before.

So only changes are IP range (90's to 10's) and Wingate instead of Winproxy.

In Wingate I have created an assumed user range of 10.0.0.1 as administrator and 10.0.0.* as general users. PC's can get to the web ok, sites seem to be blocked ok ..most things seem to be working with the default install settings .... except file downloads.

Any file download over about 2M timeout. Examples are Live-updates, software updates, itunes podcasts. Looking in the logs they are not being blocked, and I have even tried turning off pursesight.

Is there some other default timeout setting I need to change on any of the services ?

When you have a data scanning plug-in installed in WinGate, file downloads are held back from the client by WinGate until the whole file has been downloaded, scanned and deemed clean, after which the file is then passed on to the client in it's entirety. When the file being downloaded is large, the client's Internet browser may be timing out before WinGate can finish the download and pass the file on.

If this is the case, you should enable drip-feeding in the WWW Proxy Server. This option will start passing the first 75% of files being downloaded to the client as it is received by WinGate. The last 25% will be held back by WinGate so the file can be scanned and either allowed or denied before passing the entire file to the client.

To enable drip-feeding:
- GateKeeper -> Services -> WWW Proxy Server -> Plugin
- Enable "Drip-feed data to client if file bigger than xx kB"

The purchase button is labelled "Checkout" and is the bottom most right button of the shopping cart page.

clicked that.
It takes me to the enter card details screen
I enter details and press next
I get to the review your order screen that says ....

"Please review your order details to make sure they are correct, by clicking on the Purchase button at the bottom of this page, your card will be charged the amount indicated. If you wish to make any changes to your order, you can go back to the shopping cart or change Billing Information."

followed by a note that it is converted to NZD, then a summary with GST and order total .....

but There is no Purchase button displayed on the screen. After the total is a line .. followed by the Qbik copyright footer.

I'm in Wellington if you need me to call to discuss. Send me an email with a contact number (seeing I cant raise a support ticket .. as I dont have a licence key ....)

So the red Purchase button is missing from the attached page? I will inform our web developer about the problem right now.

Qbik New Zealand Ltd provides full technical support for both registered and trial users, so you can feel free to create a support ticket at the online help desk even though you don't own a license key yet. Or you can contact us on +64 9 3082500. Thanks.
