Redirecting Web Page

Postby mca » Jul 16 08 2:22 pm

Is it possible that I can redirect certain sites to a custom web page?

For example, I want to redirect http://www.youtube.com to the our home web site. How can I configure Wingate 6 to do this?

Thanks in advance... :)

Hi,
A possibility might be to modify the LMHOSTS file on the WG server, and as long as all clients are either using the WWW Proxy service directly or you have Transparent Redirection enabled in the WWW Proxy service, then when users enter http://www.youtube.com ( or whatever) and you have edited the LMHOSTS file, the IP address of your website will be associated with youtube.

Entry in LMHOSTS file would be something like;

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx http://www.youtube.com

where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the public IP address of your website. If your site is being hosted by someone other than you, you will most likely get an error.

If you have an intranet site you can use the reverse proxy feature of WG to redirect to your intranet web server, again using the LMHOSTS file, but instead of public IP put your LAN Webserver IP.

this can be done also with WinGate 2008.

If you want to try a preview, let me know.
