wierd corruption

Postby ngrayson » Mar 26 10 7:15 am

Previously posted that I was having problems with FTP corruption.

I'm also seeing some issues with HTTP in as much as a few websites do not display properly.

So, this is on my company laptop. At work, if I go to the BBC web site and follow the links to "sport" and then "formula1", it displays perfectly. I come home and connect to my home network with wingate and the same browser and same laptop will not display the page properly.

This is also true of the following link http://windowsdevcenter.com/pub/a/windo ... tml?page=3 which just displays "<meta name="site""

I've tried this in IE8 and firefox 3.6 so its not a browser issue I dont think.

Wingate (latest version) is set up for transparent redirect.

Anyone got any clues?

That link tests OK here using direct proxy. Not able to test TR right now. Can you test with direct proxy?

Sorry but no, still no joy with TR turned off.

For the programming site i have added an exclusion to Kaspersky and that now appears OK (BBC F1 sites not so) so it seems that its related to Kaspersky.

Not quit sure whats going on unless Kaspsky has a problem.

Hi have you got drip feed enabled on the WWW Proxy? It is enabled on the plug-ins tab.

GateKeeper >> Services >> WWW Proxy server >> Plug-ins >> Drip feed data to client...

Indeed I have.

This is not a new install, its been in place for years. I just seems of late to have gone wrong and only on some odd web pages and some FTP sites.

Now thats interesting.

I turned off drip feed and its all working fine. It seems like when uts drip feeding, its losing data or something? Any ideas why anyone

I'd like to have drip feed on for large FTP transfers so I'd like to overcome the problem.

Hi

Have you checked disk space on the system?

We've had some problems with KAV scanning things more recently, but I'd expect that in that case, the difference between having drip-feeding on or not would be the difference between getting anything or not.

Does the KAV log file shed any light?

Regards

Hi Adrien,

That occurred to me but I have 47Gb Free on the system drive and 85G free on the seocndary drive so I doubt thats the issue. The machine has .5G of Ram and I dont see any evidence of excessive paging or thrashing. Indeed when I'm seeing this issue, I can quit happily perform a file transfer to the machine at no apparently degraded speed.

I cant check the logs today because I have the system set up to purge the logs on Sunday mornings so they are now gone. I can turn drip feed back on and see what pops up but there is no question that my problems is related to this.

I do have B/W controls enabled based on a rule of "prefer max priority" Priority 1 both packet life and average window is set to 3s and level 1 (assigned to me has a queue length of 100Pkts and switch 100Pkts Restriction for level 1 is unrestricted and its a birectional rule. All ofther users are lower priority i.e. I'm top dog :-)

I know I never had any problem with this at one time. If nothing springs to mind, I'm happy to send my wingate config if that helps?

Cheers

Hi

It shouldn't be affected by bandwidth control.

Do you know how much of the file is missing? E.g. what proportion? Should be able to check this by file sizes of downloaded corrupted files vs non corrupted (e.g. not via proxy).

Drip-feeding sends 75% through as it is coming down. Then while the file is being scanned, we regularly send 10% of what remains each 20s (I think).
