Increase Memory usage after 20 minutes

Postby Lucasb » Nov 30 05 1:06 am

Wingate 6.1.10
After bootup the memeory usage in the PC is around 190 MByte
There are no other programs running
PC is Pentium III - 256 MByte

After around one hour the memory usage is 250Mbyte and again another hour this has risen to 450 Mbyte, till finnaly Wingate is showing memory errors and the clients are getting very slow responses and thew PC nearly hangs

After reboot all is normal but after 1-3 hours the same problem again, in 3 days in a row
We are running trail version Wingate and did not encouner this problem with previous versions

The PC is running XP prof service pack II

Are you running any plugins? Are you using WinGate's mail server?

We have seen a similar problem in our lab but it is a reasonably rare case and would only show up if you are being battered on your external IP with mail. It can be alleviated by increasing the number of receive threads available to the SMTP server from 20 to a higher number (New default is 50)

Dear Pascal

We have no e mail server , plug in are Virus protection and content protection from Wingate, switching off no result.
I think we found the problem !
We had two users on the network with a virus spitting thousands of requests on port 135
Now if we see such happening we isolate the user
We are on offshore construction platform and everybody plugs in their PC into the network to access the network so we have not so much control at the moment

I have another question : we have license for 50 users , what will happen if more than 50 users plugs in and start browsing the internet
Can I get a warning in the system when the limit is reached?
Will all users be switched off when MAX is reached?

All users are guests we have no clients installed

Thank you taking your time to answer
Best regards
Lucas

Hi Lucas

Once the limit is reached additional users are denied access. Users who have 'obtained' a license can still surf. It's reasonably fluid, so as users drop off licenses become available, etc.
