Problem after upgrade to 6.1.1

Postby aniruddha » Dec 13 05 12:12 am

Ever since we upgraded to the latest version of WinGate, we find that there are hundreds of NAT connections coming from several machines on the network. We deleted the two History files, but that is not helping. All our bindings are correctly configured and everything was working fine. So we are not able to understand why this problem is coming up again. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Are those connections DNS-related (UDP, port 53)?

Yes, TCP and UDP; ports 135 and 53.

Looks like there is DNS loop somewhere - make sure that Wingate does not use any DNS server which points back to Wingate.

How could this happen all of a sudden? WinGate has been running fine with the same settings for a the past few months...

Anyway, how do we check whether there is a DNS loopback problem?

Hi,

Are you running an Active Directory or another DNS server on your network? If you are then you should add the IP address of the DNS server in the WinGate Advanced Options applet (Start-->Programs-->WinGate-->Advanced options-->DNS Servers) to tell WinGate not to refer to the DNS server when it makes a DNS resolution request. This should stop the DNS loop from happening.
