Scenario - I can only get Dialup internet access from my home and need a better way to configure my network to share my internet connection.
I have 3 PC's, PC 1 has windows ICS(internet connection sharing) enabled with wireless link to a wireless router/AP (access point), PC 2 hard wired to router/AP and PC 3 is wireless laptop. Obviousily the router/AP has nothing plugged into the WAN port and I have DHCP server turned off on router/AP due to ICS on PC1.
This all works fine as long as PC 1 is turned on, my other PC's get IP from the ICS DHCP. My problem is related to wanting to use PC 2 and 3 when PC 1 is not on, I don't need internet all of the time so don't leave PC 1 on all of the time.
I'm no expert here but it seems I need to hook PC 1 to the router/AP WAN connection, drop ICS from PC1 and use something like WinGate to connect via dialup as needed.
Can this be done or am I just dreaming? Can WinGate be used to do this?
Remember I do not want to leave PC 1 on all of time but will turn it on when I know I need internet connection. I do not want to loose connectivity between PC 2 and 3 when PC 1 is off. I don't want to have to reconfigure 2 or 3 every time I need internet access.
Thanks in advance for any help
