How to block pop3 attachment and SMTP problem on Wingate 7 ?

Postby hingel » Feb 05 13 4:26 am

Hi,

I'm using POP3 proxy service for reach on external hosting mails. How can I block some mail attachments?

Another problem,
*** We must backup sent mails *** . We are using external mails on hosting company, I m already configured SMTP server on Wingate 7 and its working but when I send any domain on same hosting company its returning with error because outgoing server requires authentication (hosting company does not accept sent mails from Wingate) . Another way configure Wingate TCP Map Service, its working without SMTP authentication error but at this time I can not get an e-mail backups.

Please help.

Hi

you can configure WinGate SMTP delivery to authenticate to any server. You need to configure a "server" in the servers tab of the mail settings. The "server" field of the entry can match either

a) the resolved servername from the MX lookup for the target domain
b) the target domain itself

in there you can enter credentials and auth method / SSL / TLS etc.

As for dealing with attachments for POP3 proxy, we don't currently have anything. What do you want to do? E.g.

a) strip the attachment
b) block the mail from being downloaded

It's a bit trickier with the POP3 proxy, since POP3 clients don't know about such things, and when you start interfering with the messages there can be problems (e.g. downloaded message size doesn't match server-reported message size etc etc)

Is there any particular reason you're having the mail hosted? WinGate may be able to host it for you.

Regards
