Windows update takes a long time

Postby Max » Nov 17 06 3:50 am

We are running Wingare 6.14 Build 1099 as a proxy server.
Why windows update takes a long time? (3 hours).
Without the proxy, the same update takes less time (15 minutes).

Is there any problem with Wingate and Windows XP SP2 update?

Thanks for your help.

Hi

Yes there is a known problem with windows update and WinGate 6.1.4. It's been fixed and we are about to release the fix, but in the meantime, the work-around is to reduce timeouts on the WWW proxy. Down to about 15s normally improves things a lot for windows update.

Hi Adrien,

Thanks for your answer.
Currently the timeout WWW proxy is 60 sec. If I set up this value to 15 sec. is there any repercussions on other WWW access?

Hi Max

It can cause problems if you are accessing really unresponsive sites (i.e. some that may stop sending data for periods longer than 15s). These are pretty rare though.

We plan to release the fix for this tomorrow.
