Transferring License

Postby tmpease » Sep 26 04 7:36 am

I have an unlimited V.4 WG license (running on wingate v.6) that I will be transferring to a different computer. The target computer has an active trial license.

How do I transfer licenses? Do I have to have both computers online when activating/deactivating? Which registry keys need to be on the target computer?

Hi

You just need to deactivate the license on the source machine before you try activating it on the target machine.

As for transferring settings, the easiest way is to export the registry key either from GateKeeper, or from Regedit in which case the key is

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Qbik Software\WinGate

and import it on the target machine.

I am configuring the new machine separately from the original one. Will this key suffice to transfer ONLY the license to be activated:

My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Qbik Software\Wingate\License Manager

??

those keys aren't used for licensing any more

all licensing now for WinGate is via activation files. these are the .lic files in the WinGate directory, and these only work on the computer they were generated on (i.e. the computer you ran the activation client on).

So to transfer a licence, you need to deactivate it on the old machine using the activation client, then activate the issued key on the new machine
