Unable to log in on some internet sites

Postby kenmath39 » Oct 04 05 10:27 pm

Hello,
I'm using Wingate 6.0.4 on a windows 2000 server.
I have some problem to log in on some internet site, like to login on the internet of the forum of qbik. On many others internet sites I can enter my userID + pwd and then nothing appends till I get the error message from IE : "can't open the lnternet page" ...
On the other hand, I don't have any problem to log in on the internet site of hotmail for instance ...

Can you help me to solve this problem ? Do you think it's only some to configure in Wingate ?

Wingate config :
I'm using wingate as a proxy server (IE configured on each client)
2 networks cards -> 2 internet access -> DSL connection default and LAN
WWW Proxy Server (default config)
SOCKS Proxy Server (default config)

Many thx in advance
Best regards,
Mathieu.

Like the internet site of forum.qbik.com ... I can't login with the proxy setting in IE .. (everytime it ask me login again and again .... ) so I have to disable the proxy ... so I'm using my original internet connection on my LAN ...

Thx for your help

Ok, but did you try to lower the MTU in the connection which gives the error by any chance?

1. It could be a caching problem why you cannot connect to some sites; you can create policies to correct this, or turn off the caching.

2. What OS is the WinGate server installed on? (re: secure sites)

Hi,
Thx for your help ...
Still the same ...
I already tried to turn off the caching for those internet sites where I encoured some timeout connection ...

Wingate is running on a windows 2000 Server ( 1 network card for the LAN and 1 for my router ).

I don't know which value I can enter for the MTU ...
Can you give me the best MTU settings ?

Thx
Math.

My best advice for the MTU, is to use the program Dr. TCP to change it, the changer in WinGate has a small bug which will be updated in the next release.

I will have a good look at this post and Nevs solution in the next hour or tomorrow; I am multi tasking at the moment.

Hi Mathieu,

Well you can mostly adjust the MTU in the PPP configuration area of the modem as a test to see if it corrects the fault.

One case I had, the default MTU was 1500, the service would not log in to any remote sites, browsing was slow and no SMTP would work at all.

The PPPoA MTU was lowered to 1460 as a test, reboot modem solid now for months.

Could be worth a try to look in the manual for your modem or consult the ISP of your service.

Hi

What sort of Internet connection are you using? Is it PPPoE?

Normal DSL/Routers don't affect the MTU unless they use a PPPoE or PPPoA connection to your ISP.
