I have downloaded wingate and tested it on my Dail-up/Satellite "One-Way"
Connection. Here are my findings:
My Satellite connection is a "One-Way" Connection. It uses a Normal
Dial-up (via Modem) for Out-Bound Traffic, and all In-Bound Traffic
comes through the satellite dish.
The satellite connection uses a special PCI Digital Receiver/NIC with a
MAC Address. The IP for the Receiver/NIC is set to 10.10.10.10 with
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
The Dial-up Connection used with the satellite connection has the HTTP
Proxy set to 127.0.0.1 Port: 9202, and SOCKS 127.0.0.1 Port: 9203. No
other servers are setup.
wingate worked fine with HTTPS and FTP. However, it did NOT work with
HTTP nor SOCKS. My guess is that it is due to the 127.0.0.1 (Loop back
Connection).
Could you recommend a solution/solutions?"

What problem did you see when you attempted HTTP and SOCKS connections?
You might need to check the logfiles (Default in C:\Program Files\WinGate\logs) to see if there are any useful error messages logged. (If nothing useful, turn on debug logging per service in each service)
Then, how are your clients connecting out through WinGate? Are you using NAT, WGIC or have you setup your browser to use proxies?
Last question - how did you set the "connection" to use a proxy? Is that particular to the Satelite software?

Hello,
i have a oneway satellite connection too, and the return channel also is realized by dial up (isdn). The hardware and software comes from TELES, and here also the Software is acting as an proxy server.
The provider only has a workaround with "Jana Server" to share the connection. I had a lot of trouble for weeks cause i found no easy solution to share the connection for the local network.
I tried a lot of software similar to Wingate, but none worked or only the ISDN Channel was shared and used 2-way :(
Wingate seems to be the last solution for me ... and i'm quite happy that u can tell that it worked for you.
I haven't tested it yet, but it seems to be quite extensive and complex.
Did you have to use special settings or was the setup easy?
Cause your post is about one year old, maybe you even a better solution now?
Thx, bye

Hi
How is the satellite card connected to the PC - is there a network connection, or does it plug in directly?
Does the Satellite card have an IP address?
You should be able to configure WinGate to work with this configuration - have you tried installing it, it has a free 30 day trial, and we can work with you to get it working.

Adrien
