Configuring Bluetooth & Ethernet

HI !!

I have a small network, which has a desktop system running XP Pro with Ethernet Card and a Bluetooth NIC.

I have couple of other Desktops and Laptops. I wanted to share my SpeeNet connection with is on this main Desktop (with different Network cards) and to use with other systems. I would like to use Ethernet for the Desktops and Bluetooth for the laptops.

Can anybody suggest how to configure Wingate for using this two different types of Network Cards ?

Hi there

The client machines should have their Gateway and DNS entries (found in their Network properties) pointed to the appropriate internal IP address of the network card they connect to on the WinGate Server (i.e. the IP address of the bluetooth network card on the WinGate server for the laptops, the ethernet IP for the desktop machines).

Then they should have no problem accessing the Internet through the WinGate's Speednet Internet connection. This is called NAT (network address translation) client connection method.

The setup for NAT connections are explained in detail in the WinGate helpfile.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I got a problem with 6.1:
I've got a desktop with ethernet (192.168.0.1) and bluetooth network cards (10.0.0.1).
Internet sharing with my first notebook (192.168.0.2) is ok using Wingate NAT, but my second notebook with bluetooth (10.0.0.2) resists to work using NAT. Only through wingate www-proxy on 10.0.0.1:80
What settings should I look at?
Default gateway and DNS server are set properly (both 192.168.0.1 for 1st laptop and both 10.0.0.1 for 2nd one)

Check the adapter "usage" for the bluetooth adapter.

in GateKeeper, go to the network tab. At the bottom, it shows all your adapters. The "usage" setting for the bluetooth adapter should be set to "internal", you can change it if you need to by double-clicking on it.

If it already is internal, what shows up in GateKeeper when your bluetooth client tries to access the internet not using a proxy? Do you get firewall hits, or any activity showing in GateKeeper?

It's set to internal
No firewall logs
In activity tab I see that 10.0.0.2 resolves names eg www.ya.ru and quickly dissappears

it sounds like it could be a configuration issue on your client then. Is it configured to use DHCP to get its IP address?

Check also the internet connection settings on the client.

It doesn't use DHCP

As you can see ping 10.0.0.1 is ok
ping cnn.com seems to be ok too, because the address is resolved to 64.236.24.20
