Wingate Proxy and firewall server failover!

Nov 30 05 4:56 am

The title says it all.

Right now my compay has only one server acts as proxy, firewall to the internet. It is a single failure nw layout. If the server unexpectedly fails the whole company can't get on the internet safely.

So my quesiton is: What is the best way to make this wingater server redundant? Failover if you will.

Thanks,

Hi,

You can install WinGate on a spare machine and export the WinGate registry file from the active server. If the active server fails you can bring the new server online and run it with a trial license until you can contact us to deactivate your license, at which time you can activate the license on the spare machine.

Copying the registry file across preserves all of your settings.

When your server fails you won't have a chance to deactivate your license so you'll need to get hold of us, we can deactivate the activation record from here. You can then activate the license in the new machine.

Several questions come to mind.

1) How long does it take me to contact you and have you deactivate the licence?
2) Is there a direct line for this? What is the fastes method?
3) The first step for me now is download a trial version then install it, right?
4) How can I perform a registry exporting from the active server to the backup server? I went to the wingate pc and did not see any option for this task.

Thank you very much for precise answers.

Hi,

You can preserve your settings when you transfer WinGate to the XP machine.

To answer your questions from your previous post:

1) How long does it take me to contact you and have you deactivate the licence?

You can simply email the support desk with your license details and ask us to deactivate your license. At this time the support desk is staffed from 7:30 am to 4 pm Monday, 10 pm Tuesday to Friday and 9 am to 2 pm Saturday, New Zealand time. We can deactivate your license as soon as we receive your request.

2) Is there a direct line for this? What is the fastes method?

In an urgent situation you're welcome to call us during the above times as well. Alternatively, if you purchase your license from a reseller near you, the reseller can deactivate your license for you.

3) The first step for me now is download a trial version then install it, right?

The software is the same whether you run it with a trial license or a purchased license, but yes, you'll need to download and install it.

4) How can I perform a registry exporting from the active server to the backup server? I went to the wingate pc and did not see any option for this task

We have a knowledge base article on exporting your registry, also we have an article on transferring your license.
