New version fails to start

Postby bztips » Jun 08 12 1:55 am

I just installed the latest releases of Wingate 7.2.2 and KAV 7.2.2. When I log into the Wingate Management screen, I get a notification that Kaspersky failed to start. Both licenses are valid and active. I rebooted, still no help.

Any ideas?

Hi

Did it give you any more information? There should be something in the logs as to why.

I can have a look remotely if you like

I don't know which log to look in. The Kaspersky log just shows that the update installed successfully. All I get is a notification when logging into the Management Console. The log at the bottom of the Notifications tab says: Kaspersky Antivirus for Wingate failed to initialise

HI

unless you set your KAV to log to anywhere else, it would have logged it into the Global log file.

In the Wingate\Logs folder, there is no Global log file. I see only the following relevant folders:

WinGate NAT
WWW Proxy Server
Kaspersky AV for Wingate
DHCP Service
System

And none of the log files in any of these folders have a recent date, so nothing has been written since I updated.

Hi

look in WinGate Management, under control panel > logging.

It's possible the files are somewhere else (e.g. WinGate\Global)

There will be something there unless WinGate has no access rights to its own folder.

OK, I found the log file in the Global folder. Then I logged into the Management Console and again got the flashing red light with a notification that Kaspersky failed to initialise. Here's the last several lines of the log file (maybe only the last few lines were written after I logged into MC).

Hi

can you find some log lines where the source is Kaspersky AV?

Those are all caching, DNS, web proxy etc.

There are no log lines in the Global.log file referencing Kaspersky.

fyi When I go to the Control Panel | Logging and click Edit Log Settings, I see that the default log name is listed as Global, and Kaspersky is listed in the Sources tab. But as I said nothing is being written about Kaspersky.

Hi

I just double-checked the code. All failures to initialise log something at the highest level so there should be a log somewhere.

The settings for the Kaspersky AV log source specify where the log entries go, by default this is <default> which goes to the Global logger.

ok, and this was an update from a previous version of WinGate and KAV for WinGate 7?

I can only think of 1 suggestion, and that's to clear the bases and do a full signature update.

Can you try

1. Stop WinGate
2. Delete the contents of WinGate\Packages\Kaspersky AV\Bases
3. Start WinGate. Hopefully then KAV will start
4. Go to the Kaspersky tab, and click on the update task.
