Very often ebay does not work...

Nov 14 05 10:51 am

Requests to

http://<xyz>.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

are mostly replied by a timeout. If I use a direct connection without wingate it works fine... any ideas.

I use Wingate 6.1 and Proxy (not NAT)
if I switch to socks instead of http proxy it seems to work...

Do you know which HTTP command is being issued in this case?

We found a problem with OWA, which uses WebDAV extensions to HTTP. There were a couple of commands (like SEARCH) which were problematic.

No, and this morning it seems to work (yesterday all day long not). Would it help you to switch on debug in the WWW-Service logs?

Nov 14 05 8:13 pm

OK now I was able to reproduce it...

Here is one log entry:

After that I went to use NAT and it works so seems to be a wingate problem and not a ebay server one. The response time of the ebay server is <10s if I use NAT or socks...

The timout seetings for the WWW-Service is set to 120s.

Nov 16 05 4:23 pm

Are there alternative solutions (except using NAT or SOCKS instead HTML Proxy)?

Nov 29 05 9:49 am

Still no idea? The problem is reproducable on ALL clients!!

I had to switch to SOCKS-Proxy but want to use the HTTP one. Need a solution.

Out of curiousity, are you using any plugins?

Nov 29 05 10:13 am

Yes antivirus 2.0

Maybe also interesting.
Last time the error was reported I got a message HTTP 1.1 not supported (the browser was FireFox 1.0.7). Before I only got timeouts (IE 6)

As the problem is readily reproducible, can you create a secondary web proxy without the plugin on a different port. Then point a client browser through that proxy and try it through that.

It is possible that AV is reporting a failure to scan or something similar and that the file is simply being discarded. That seems a bit unlikely though, as there was no communication beyond the WinGate server. (I.e. none with Ebay).

This could also be related to caching. Would it be possible for you to add an explicit rule to the cache (Once the plugin test is done) to ignore this file for caching purposes.

Nov 29 05 10:24 am

Oh. And which part of ebay.de were you navigating to reproduce this problem?

http://xyz.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

Used if you want to create new auctions or changing your usersettings. If I write reproducable I do not mean that it occurs every time. But I get it so regularly that I think I'm able to produce the fault within an hour.

I switched ebay caching already off. This does not help.

Now I will also try to disable the antivirus plugin. Just contact me directly if I should run a special debug engine or anything else to help you with the analysis.

Tried without antivirus - does not work. Tested URL was

http://cgi4.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Ch ... ccountType

next idea?
