New Install; Server returns invalid address 0.0.0.0

Postby mlj213 » Apr 15 04 4:58 am

I have recently installed VPN on NT4 Server with cable modem ISP dynamic IP; imported certificate to dial up client. When I try to connect, it says my "server returns an invalid address 0.0.0.0" (This whole concept is a learning experience for me.)

(Trying to gain access to my client PC at work, behind the server, from home Win98, and/or XP)

I'm new as well and I have the same problem. I think it might have something to do with DNS, but I'm too green to be sure.

I think you're right... but I can't figure out how to set that up either! It appears as tho Wingate can do that too... but it isn't, at this point!

It is an NT domain, if that's what you mean. I'm sorry... you question stumped me. I used the default settings for the Wingate & VPN setup. But I can't even get to the point of connecting.

Got in backwards. Established connection from Corp to Home fine, now will read forum to find out what to do next. Can't seem to map to shared drives yet

There is a very useful guide in our white paper section. It takes you through basic troubleshooting and configuration of a VPN, which covers most general issues discussed on the forums.

About to give up and move on

Postby Classic815 » Apr 22 04 3:31 am

After much angst and fiddling with the router, the best I could do is to connect to the home office exacly as I want to connect to this office. As yet, I have no clear idea of where the problem is. The Netopia Router has more parameters than I see talked about here, and when I see to put the ip address into a section, there are about four different places I can put that into. There are also three different ip addresses to deal with and add the port to all that and it all gets very confusing. I know you guys tried, but I think I have to find an easier product to work with.

There are three basic things to check, once you have the control channel established.

First, ensure that the router(s) has the appropriate pinholes / fowarding for port 809 TCP and port 809 UDP. The port numbers can be different if you changed that in the VPN General Configuration.

Secondly, ensure that the machines behind the VPN nodes (Nodes being either the Hoster and Joiner) has some way to route a packet back to the other node / network. You can do this in one of three ways, either through RIP v 2, static routes or by setting the default gateway of the machine to the appropriate VPN Node.

Third, you might have an MTU problem if you are able to browse, but not map drives / copy files, etc.

Proper configuration / settings for each of these are covered in the document (It's a fairly long explanation)

How are your client machines showing up in GateKeeper ? Are the "Accessible" or "Not Accessible" ?
