machine crahses when Cisco VPN client is used

Postby sjoerd » Aug 04 04 1:46 am

After installing version 6 I tried to setup a cisco VPN on one of the NAT clients. The machine running Wingate crashed (tried this several times) Al the settings a made after installing version 6 (upgraded from 5.x) where gone. I also noted there is no advanced option any more to make a registry backup. Whats wrong here?

So it used to work through WinGate 5.x?

I can't think what would have changed.

All the settings shouldn't have gone, however some settings may have changed related to service bindings, which we warn about in the installer, you will need to check service bindings after upgrading to WinGate 6.0.

That option to make a registry backup shouldn't have disappeared either, that's most strange. What sort of license did you activate?

If you activated a prior version of WinGate, try requesting a trial activation and see if that brings the features back.

No it didn't work with 5 because it uses ipsec. I installed 6 (pro) because ipsec is supported. I deactivated the 5 license and deactivated the 6 license, advanced is back now.
The settings that were lost after the crash were settings i made in version 6. I will try again to setup the VPN, I will let you know what happened

Hi

One thing, the IPSEC support in WinGate 6.0 only works for IPSEC clients that support NAT-T over UDP.

This was previously broken in WinGate 5.0, simply because many NAT-T IPSEC clients don't set a UDP checksum, which meant that WinGate was rejecting the packets.

Wingate 6 behaves very erratic. When i came in this morning the wingate pc had crashed again and the settings where gone. After restoring the saved registry file not all settings where restored: removed users where back in the list with users.

I removed version 6. and went back to 5. It is to unstable. Eventhough version 6 was installed on a brand new pc with XP the system completely shuts down every few hours.
