License question

Postby rna » Aug 26 04 11:55 am

Hi,

I have two sites that I want to join with a VPN, I also want to share internet access on both sites with 20 PCs on each, but only 3 or 4 concurrently. I also need to be able to connect to the VPN from my home.

How many licenses do I need?

Thanks

Hi Roberto,

You will need a license for each node on the VPN, so one for the host, one for the joiner, and one for the joiner at home.

If you only have 3 or 4 users accessing the VPN at one time you can try a 3 or a 6 user license. One license seat is taken by the server, so this would allow 2 more machines to access or be accessed by the VPN at any one time. So for 4 machines you should probably get a 6 user license. If you only have the one machine at home you can use a single user license on that machine.

Matt

So,
For the primary office, wich does not have a fixed IP, I could buy a wingate enterprise license for 12 users, and another one for the remote office, wich does have a fixed IP and would host the VPN. And a 1 user license for when I connect from Home. This way 12 users on each side would have access to the internet, right?

How do I setup wich computers appear on the VPN? Or do all the computers appear, and only the concurrent users have access to them?

What about email addresses, can I create many of them and use 12 at a time or do I only have 12 email addresses?

From the PC at home would I be able to contact the PCs that join the VPN from the main office?

Thanks

Yes, you are correct about the licenses that you will purchase.

All of the computers will have access to the VPN but only 11 (plus the server) will be able to access it at one time.

The same goes for the email, you can have as many email accounts as you wish, but only 11 concurrent connections to the WinGate server are allowed at any one time.

The PC at home would be able to access 11 computers plus the server at any one time.

Matt

Ok, I installed the trial on saturday, and I like Wingate. Just one more question.
Do the number of concurrent users apply to conections coming from the internet?

I made a service that redirects a specific port to a .Net app on a PC inside the lan that hosts the VPN. I want to know if there is a limit in the concurrent users of that Service.

Also, what are DMZs? And how do I take advantage of them?

Thanks
