pop3 collection

Postby grumpy1 » Aug 31 04 4:32 pm

Hi
Im trying wingate 6 build 995 and have set up pop3 collection to download from our domain
as a experiment i have set it to collect mail every 5 mins but the dialer is never initiated it just sits there and never dials and collects automatically
The e-mail system works fine if i do it all manually but it does not seem to work automatically
Is this a configuration issue
Regards

If you put traffic through WinGate (I.e. from a client) does it initiate the dialer? (I.e. is the dialer configured properly for dialing)

dialer

Postby grumpy1 » Aug 31 04 8:19 pm

yes i can establish a connection thru another computer and it starts up the dialer just as it should
the only thing not working is the pop3 collection
Just this afternoon i set wingate 6 up on another machine ands set up pop3 collection and it does the same thing
I notice the log saying checking pop3xxxx.xxx.xx
but it doesnt initiate the dialer either

Also in all Betas the dailer was never started for mail collection. I submitted this wish several month ago. Normal datatransfer works.

For me it would be best if I could define 2 different collections timeframes per mail account:
1. If internet connection is established (e.g. collect every 5mins)
2. If no connection is established collect e.g. every 12h.

or
1. use different timers for every mail account (as it works today, no explicit establish of a connection)
2. A global timer that collects all accounts and explicitly establishes a connection before.

Best regards

Hi

Yep, sorry all, this was omitted. I have put it in now, and it should make the next maintenance release due out this week.

The multiple timer idea is interesting as well. I think I prefer the first option - i.e. different schedule depending on whether there is a connection or not.

POP3 collection uses the gateway settings associated with the SMTP server, so we would probably make the determination of whether the connection was available or not dependent on this as well, which would mean the setting would be honoured according to the gateway or dialup specified for the SMTP server.

First thx for the hopefully fixed maintenance release.

Second, would be great if you could implement the multiple timer feature as it would help us collecting the data in a reasonable way.

ciao
