So you want WinGate to use authentication when it delivers to yahoo.com?

You would need to find the servers that accept mail for yahoo.com, then set up a server record for them.

For instance, you would use nslookup.exe to do an MX query for yahoo.com. To do this, go to the command line, type nslookup.

then type "set type=MX", then enter, then type the name, e.g. "yahoo.com". it will then return the MX servers for yahoo.com. These are in this case:

MX preference = 1, mail exchanger = mx3.mail.yahoo.com
MX preference = 5, mail exchanger = mx4.mail.yahoo.com
MX preference = 1, mail exchanger = mx1.mail.yahoo.com
MX preference = 1, mail exchanger = mx2.mail.yahoo.com

So, the servers you would need to create in WinGate are as above, one for mx1.mail.yahoo.com, for mx2.mail.yahoo.com etc.

Hmmmm not ideal, need really a way to do this per domain... will have to add that feature.

Anyway, to add the servers, go to the servers tab in WinGate email, click add, type in say "mx1.mail.yahoo.com", then select "server requires authentication", and enter your username and password.

Note, this is for SMTP, not POP3.

wow ,,,mistake me ..

My meaning is that I have a LAN netwrks over 50 computers,

an computer that ip is 192.168.0.5 is DNS sever.it is proxy server also.

other computer are client computer.

And there are over 50 staffs.expect company mail sever ,they have diffrent mail servers,

eg. yahoo mail sever, hotmail and so on...

So how do I configure a smtp proxy sever.so that those staffs whom have yahoo mail can "send" mail via that yahoo smtp proxy sever.

I can't setup an accont's username and password in the servers tab in WinGate email.

I think that those staffs can't want tell your them accont_name and password .

En,,,,,,,,,,,,, thankx...

I'm not sure I understand you fully.

Your users have mailboxes on other servers, e.g. yahoo and hotmail.

And you also want to use mail internally in your network. Do you want to use your own domain name for this internal mail? If so, you can set up a domain in WinGate mail for this, which doesn't need to exist on the Internet, as long as it will only be used locally. If you want outside users to be able to send mai to these addresses, then the domain name would need to be registered.

Anyway, there are 2 issues. One, how do your users get their yahoo mail. If their mail clients can handle multiple POP3 accounts, then they can just retrieve their mail normally. If you want all your users to instead only need to check their internal mail account in WinGate, then WinGate can do the POP3 retrieval for your users. In this case however your users would need to enter their POP3 usernames and passwords into WinGate.

For delivery of mail by SMTP to yahoo, you don't need to use SMTP authentication. If your users configure their mail clients to send mail to WinGate, then they won't need to authenticate either (unless they are connecting to WinGate on an external interface). WinGate will then just deliver the mail wherever it needs to go. If delivery to a server does require authentication, then you can use the methods I outlined in my last post.

I too am having problems sending mail to yahoo. I dont use Wingate (ver 6.03) as my mail server, its only a small network with everyone having different e-mail accounts, 3-4 yahoo account, 2 hotmail and 2 with xtra.

Xtra's SMTP server does not require authentication and works perfectly however Yahoo's SMTP server does require authentication. For some reason I cant send any mail from my client, using yahoo, but I can using xtra

Any ideas?
