Postby gjethro » Sep 08 04 5:25 pm

I use wingate 5.2.3, and setup email server, users (U1,U2) and outlook express.
I can send email from U1 to U2 in outlook express and the mails were under WinGate\Mail\POP3\U2.
but when i use U2 to get email in outlook express, can not pass authentication. I have check the password, it is ok! And i use this password succeed in other functions such as logon wingate.

following is the outlook express error:
-ERR logon failed: Bad username or password for U2

following is the wingate debug info: login as Administrator or U2

Check the user account for U2. I think with 5.2.3 you could specify a different password for a user's email account. It might be that you need to configure that. Or was that the password you used?

Also, are you using the NT user database with a remote user database?

In this case, I think WinGate 5.2.3 can't do plaintext authentication for POP3.. That was fixed in an earlier version of WinGate 6.0.

I have got it myself !!!

I think you make a mistake in 5.2.3:
must change the account name from U2 to U2@omnicare.com,then ok.
But this is not the normal way for pop3,it' very strange and there is no document about this.

by the way, you document has many errors, it's not consistent to u wingate.

Any way, Thanks you very much!

Hi

You shouldn't have to do this - the full email address is an optional way, but it shouldn't be the only way, the normal WinGate username should work as well.
