Traffic in Log files

Postby Eugene » Sep 09 04 8:34 pm

I find problem with Wingate 6.01
Traffic records in log files of www proxy service indicates 0, but really that must be normal numbers.
Example from log file:

0000031181 Requested http://img.yandex.ru/i/i-announce2.gif
0000031181 Traffic 0 0 0 0 0s

About 2/3 records have that problem. Accordingly Billing program incorrectly show statistic.

At the same time, on user page accounting traffic calculation is really true.

Hi

I can see how this problem is happening, but it is not a minor fix.

Basically because a single session now can have multiple requests go through it because of connection keepalives, and we wanted to keep the user database statistics up to date, we reset the traffic count on a session after each request.

This means that when your client machines are using HTTP 1.1, and making multiple requests through a single connection, the statistics in the traffic log item are wrong, because after the final request, the traffic is reset.

In order for us to fix this, would require us not to update user statistics in between connections, which in turn reduces the accuracy of user accounting limits.

I understand the problem with your accounting package requiring proper data here though, so we will make some changes.

Hi Eugene

We made some changes in the latest build (1001) to add a traffic log entry for each request. So if your accounting software totals the traffic, then it will get the correct data. There will still be zero data logs for the final entry, but the totals should be correct.
