Webcam cannot be viewed after reinstalling WinGate 5

Postby dizonj9 » Sep 18 04 9:43 pm

I have reinstalled new WinGate 5.0.0 to a new machine with newly configured Windows 98 which is set up as the server in my Internet Cafe. After I have successfully installed the WinGate, at first only few users were able to connect to the internet but later on when I used proxy server in workstation LAN settings, all computers are now able to connect to the internet, but there is one big problem --

1. When users are in Yahoo Messenger, they cannot be connected when the connection is set to No Proxies, but once I change the connection of the Y Messenger to Firewall with no proxies, connection will be estavlished.
Previously sellecting No Proxies was ok.

2. When users are online in Y Messenger, they cannot view their webcams as well as the webcams of other chatters, with the following error message:

"Sorry, you appear to be behind a firewall and are currently unable to use Yahoo!Webcam service"

Last time we did not encounter this problem before. How can I check if the firewall is blocking the Yahoo webcam service?

Appreciate your appreciate response on this. Thanks a lot.

Firstly, I would recommend upgrading your version of WinGate to 6.0.3 (whic is the latest release). Secondly, from the testing I did with Yahoo Messenger last week, the webcam option only works if the clients are connecting out through WinGate using NAT or the WGIC. Yahoo Messenger doesn't seem to want to use proxies for the webcam, not even Socks.

How are your clients connecting out?

My clients are connected to Wingate 5.0.0 thru NAT. Internet connection is perfect, but without webcam support, no MRIC and Chikka connection. I am thinking of buying a router (hardware device) to isolate if Wingate is giving problems to the internet connection. I will use a separate server to configure this, not touching the current server which is running fine.

WinGate 5.0 is a very old version now, and we did significant work with webcam software for the later WinGate 5.x and 6.0 releases.

So upgrading could well solve your problem.

It was working perfectly for the past 3 months with Wingate 5.0.0 only last Friday it was affected when the server couldn't establish connection to the internet. I found later on that the server was infected with the virus in c:\windows\system and whenever this virus is activated, the server will hang. I formatted already the server and reinstalled WinGate 5.0.0 but this time the webcam feature is being block by the firewall? I also noticed in the activity of Wingate that there were some hacks that were blocked by the GateKeeper. Is it possible that hackers had invaded my server and they are controlling how my server behaves?

Thanks.
