Upgrade 6.0.1 Mail Dies & FTP Question

Postby mcb » Sep 03 04 4:33 am

This is an addendum to the previous question, but please use the below for reference. Are there any other places/reasons whereby the traffic coming to 110 & 25 would be stopped by Wingate? I had noticed in the properties of your POP3 sever there is a check box that asks you whether or not you want to allow POP3 proxying. Is this a possible point of contention?

Also had a question on FTP delivery. I had seen in the forums that there was a problem in 5.x where downloading FTP files were aborting due to a Kapersky AV glitch. And the only fix for this was to install/buy Kapersky. Has this been fixed in 6.0.1?

Thanks,

Hey Matt & Adrien,

Well it looks like I struck out? Here’s what I did.
1. Performed the upgrade. (6.0.1)
2. Checked settings, everything that we had added seemed to have carried over.
3. Made sure the POP3 & SMTP servers were disabled.
4. Then went into those servers and set their ports to obscure ports.
5. Went over to services. There was a POP3 service – I disabled it.
6. Checked the mapping for port 25 & 110 for our mail server.
7. Everything looked as normal.
8. When sending and receiving mail the Receiving errored out. It simply said check with ISP or sys admin. (love those messages when you just happen to be the sys admin ; )
9. I reinstalled 5.2.2. The same settings remained that I had in vs. 6.0.1.
10. Everything was back to normal and working fine. I changed nothing, not even to import the old reg settings. The only difference was versions of the software.

Thanks,

Matt Ballard

Hi Matt,

I've had a look at your registry settings, everything looks ok, but you might like to try changing the ports for the SMTP and POP3 servers to something obsure, like 2525 and 8110, even though they're disabled they can still assume those ports. Please try this and let me know what happens.

We're GMT plus 12 I think, so we're 8 hours behind NY time, tomorrow.

Hi Matt,

For your FTP question, yes the problem was fixed in version 6. You don't have to purchase KAV to get it working.

Did you try setting the POP3 and SMTP servers to use a different port?

Regards,

Matt

Thanks again guys for all of your work!

Whatever was resolved in the latest build fixed our problems. I used the same settings and rules and it works just fine. Kudos to the tech support team for voluntarily taking it on theirselves to set up a test server that was a mock up of what we were running to try to examine an issue.
