pc1: adsl -> ISP, local network card 192.168.1.1
pc2: 192.168.1.2 -> (not ENS) connect to WWW proxy on port xxxx

i used 5.2.2 now I bought license for wingate 6.0 and
after installation i got the following problem:

pc2 can't connect to www proxy on pc1. on pc1 in history i see pc2 is trying to connect to www proxy connected and request is 'http://' and that's all. pc2 can't connect to inet.

i was using wingate from early versions so don't think i am lame on this.

There has been a fair amount of changes in WinGate since 5.2.2; including the addition of a new binding scheme, new licensing and the introduction of HTTP 1.1 support.

Your problem will most likely be in one of two places:

(a) an inability to resolve the name (DNS)
(b) another error in the WWW Proxy Service

Can you turn on debug logging for the DNS/WINS Resolver and for the WWW Proxy Service then try to browse again. Check the logfiles (And possibly post portions of them here) to help find the problem.

If it is DNS related, we have seen some cases where adding the DNS Server manually to WinGate's list of known servers could help.

also, check adapter usage.

Is ENS installed? I note you say the client isn't using it, but some other things don't always function properly if it isn't installed.

It could not be DNS because pc1 is browsing inet through www proxy service on the same port. not directly. so For Pc1 is working ( on localhost ) for pc2 not working. hm.... But I will check for more.

And where to check logfiles?

Logfiles are normally in C:\Program Files\WinGate\Logs. The WWW Proxy Service's will be in "WWW Proxy server" subfolder.

11/28/04 16:07:15 Debug: selected 195.34.32.10 <IP helper> for request [01424418]<1> (best looking)
11/28/04 16:07:15 Debug: request [01424418](ID 42) sent to 195.34.32.10 <IP helper> (42 bytes)
11/28/04 16:07:15 Debug: received block [119] (server 195.34.32.10, port 53)
11/28/04 16:07:15 Debug: no such domain [01424418](ID 42)

If you run nslookup and do the lookup manually, can you resolve the name? (Can't test it because the site's not listed in that DNS logfile snippet)

Have you checked the error code in the WWW Proxy log file?

when i use 5.2.2 as server then on pc2 nslookup not working
when i use 6.0 as server then on pc2 nslookup is working and resolving ok

this one i posted was for trying to resolve internal 192.168.x.x IPS from my ISP. it doesn't have it :)

I made entry in hosts for my internal IP and DNS resolver logging not reveal any activity on 6.0 with trying to resolv address which came from pc2

and WWW proxy in log file have only that pc2 requested http:// url and other part of url adrress is cutted . This is problem.

So. I've lost 4 hours yesterday and despite I have payed license for 6.0 now have to use not payed license for 5.2.2 .

On 6.0 I even tried to allow everything. Doesn't help. on history i see
only

pc2 requesting http:// nothing more.

Which is why there should be a correlation between the two. First, you should see session creation from PC2, in the WWW Proxy Service Log. This should be followed by an attempt of WinGate's Resolver to work out where you're connecting to. If that fails, I believe you will see the http:// with nothing else.

Alternatively - do you have any policies setup?

You need to get in touch with Matt Parker for that.

Easiest option is to contact him via the Kayako support system - you can find that here:

He might have some other thing to try as well.
